LifeSci Vivarium Becomes First Laboratory in Turkey to Earn AAALAC Accreditation
Boğaziçi University Center for Life Sciences and Technologies' (LifeSci) Vivarium unit has become Turkey's first internationally accredited laboratory for care and breeding of lab animals by earning "Full Accreditation" from The Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC International).
Center Director Prof. Rana Sanyal said the accreditation received in November 2017 confirms that LifeSci Vivarium is the first laboratory providing services at international animal welfare standards in Turkey. Preparation and application processes were carried out under "Accreditation of Life Science Industry Service Laboratories Project" supported by the Istanbul Development Agency in 2016.
AAALAC International (www.aaalac.org/) is a private, nonprofit organization that promotes the humane treatment of animals in science through voluntary accreditation and assessment programs. Nearly 1,000 companies, universities, hospitals, government agencies and other research institutions in 46 countries have earned AAALAC accreditation, demonstrating their commitment to responsible animal care and use. These institutions volunteer to participate in AAALAC's program, in addition to complying with the local, state and federal laws that regulate animal research.
