Vivarium Unit was structured in accordance with the communique on protection and welfare of animals used for laboratory and other scientific purposes, published by the Turkish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock in the Official Gazette dated December 13, 2011. The Vivarium has an area of 400 squaremeters and is the first laboratory animal facility in Turkey where temperature, pressure, humidity, ventilation and lighting are controlled by a special automation system. The PLC-controlled system keeps room conditions at optimum levels.
The lab's main entrance is monitored by security cameras and both biometric fingerprint and card scanning is required for entry, followed by a sterilization system. Card scanning is also required before entering each room inside the facility. Alarm systems have been installed to detect water leaks, equipment malfunction, etc.
