BU LifeSci Passes First Stage in European Union “Horizon 2020 Teaming Call”

Boğaziçi University Life Sciences and Technologies Center was among the 20 research centers selected as a result of the “Joint ‘Teaming’ National Call” within the scope of the “European Union Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Framework Program” jointly launched by TÜBİTAK and the Ministry of Development.

BU LifeSci plans to submit its project TACLiST (Teaming to Advance the Center for Life Sciences and Technologies) to the EU in November for the H2020 – Teaming application.

Horizon 2020 (Horizon 2020), covering the period 2014-2020, constitutes the EU’s highest coherent framework program to date, with around €80 billion devoted to research and innovation. The “Diffusion of Excellence and Widening Participation – ‘WIDESPREAD (Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation)” field under H2020 aims to create new opportunities for cooperation and development by funding countries that are underperforming in research and innovation. In this way, it aims to make the European Research Area work in a more developed and homogeneous way and to optimize the strengths of the countries. Research centers from Turkey will be able to submit proposals to the WIDESPREAD Teaming call, which brings a new feature to framework programs, by forming a consortium with Europe’s leading research institutes.

The EU has been implementing Framework Programs since 1984 in order to harmonize Europe’s science, technology policies and practices.
