Boğaziçi University Life Sciences and Technologies Application and Research Center is a very young center not only in terms of the year it was founded but also in terms of its participants, and it is full of scientists pursuing their ideals. It is a structure that we understand and embrace each other’s problems very well. Because we set out by saying, “We need to think bigger and come together more to do these big projects that we are considering”. If one asks why life sciences, health products constitute the second largest item after energy in Turkey’s foreign expenditures, and for this reason, our university has chosen to invest in the field of health technologies.
Within the body of Boğaziçi LifeScie, We continue our work with the contribution of the Ministry of Development, which has exceeded 43 million Turkish Liras since 2010. With 49 academic members from 13 departments of our university and approximately 380 graduate students, we are carrying out more than 100 scientific research projects supported by national and international funds such as the Ministry of Development, Istanbul Development Agency, Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council (TUBITAK), European Union, in connection laboratories using our infrastructure. Since our establishment, our members have published around 560 and received more than 2600 citations; While consulting about 360 postgraduate theses, it has received 13 patents related to research and still has many new patent applications. In the beginning, first We brought together researchers and scientific experts from various academic units with an interdisciplinary working spirit. Then, in cooperation with other academic and industrial organizations, we turned to providing infrastructure for large projects aiming to contribute to the Turkish economy and increase the quality of human life by creating innovative approaches and products, Medical Device Development or Clean Room, Animal Production and Care and Testing – Analysis. We have gathered all stages of research, from scientific idea to clinical trials, under a single center with our infrastructure consisting of three units. We are taking all the necessary steps to obtain national and international accreditation in order to ensure that the services provided by our said units to both the academy and the industry are of the best quality. At the same time, the Ministry of Development, With the support of the Istanbul Development Agency and the Ministry of Industry and Technology, while developing comprehensive projects for university-industry cooperation such as Inovita Life Sciences and Technologies Istanbul Cooperation Platform, Inovita Health Technologies Incubation Center and Istanbul Health Industry Cluster, Turkey’s We started the Researcher Training Program for Industry to contribute to the training of qualified researcher manpower that it urgently needs. One of the most important features of Boğaziçi LifeSci is the steps it takes to move to a professional structure. With our application within the scope of the Law No. 6550 on research infrastructures issued by the Ministry of Development, we want to be one of the leading centers in Turkey in this regard as well. With this process, we plan to use our resources more efficiently and to take more pioneering and bolder steps in university-industry cooperation.
